Aligning with the Universe

As 2026 begins, many of us turn toward familiar resolutions such as eating better, exercising more, resting deeply, and spending less time on screens. Yet this year, my deepest resolution is about aligning more fully with the Universe.
When We Resist the Flow
Over time, I have learned that when I am not aligned with the Universe or with the flow of life, I suffer. That suffering arises when I cling to a particular outcome for myself or for those I love, when life refuses to unfold according to my expectations.
In those moments, my body tightens and my mind contracts. I am swimming against the current of life, expending enormous energy in resistance. There may be frustration, fear, or even anger, yet despite all this effort, the outcome does not change.
Alignment with the Universe begins with an acknowledgment: I do not prefer this path, yet I have done my best. From this place, surrender becomes possible, not as resignation, but as a willingness to loosen my grip.
Surrender Is Not Passivity
True surrender is not giving up. It is a shift in how we meet life.
When I release my attachment to how things should be, I find that trust begins to take root. I start to sense that the unfolding of life is guided by a wisdom far greater than my own, even when the meaning of this unfolding is not immediately clear to me.
Recognizing When We Are Out of Alignment
I know I have drifted from alignment with the Universe when I notice:
Contraction in the body or a sense of inner tension
Persistent worry or fear
A restless mind that refuses to simply be
This year, I want to notice these signals in early stages and return to stillness instead of being hijacked by the internal dramas.
Returning to Stillness
In these moments, I sit in silence. Sit and know that you are sitting, as one of my teachers says. I bring my attention to the breath (the inhale, the exhale). The mind wanders, and I gently return it. Each return feels like a small awakening.
Over time, calm arises. The grip of the ego softens. There is a quiet sense of freedom, as though I have been let out of prison.
Moving with the Flow of Life
From this place of clarity, life moves more easily. Trust replaces resistance. Even difficult moments begin to reveal themselves.
When I am aligned with the Universe, kindness flows naturally toward myself and toward others. Perhaps this is one of the simplest secrets to a life of quiet bliss.
May this year invite you into deeper trust, gentle awakening, and the courage to move with the flow of life rather than against it.
Reflection:
Where in your life are you swimming against the current?
What might shift if, just for a moment, you softened your grip and listened for the deeper intelligence moving through this situation?
Breath Meditation:
Sit comfortably and let the body settle.
Bring your attention to the breath.
Feel the inhale as it enters.
Feel the exhale as it leaves.
When the mind wanders, gently return to the breath.
Inhaling, know you are inhaling.
Exhaling, know you are exhaling.
Rest in this simple awareness for a few breaths.
When you are ready, open your eyes and carry this steadiness with you.
