Clinging to Decay!

kiranjoshi9

“Subject to decay are all conditioned things, Awaken with heedfulness” – Buddha’s last words

So, what decays:

"I, Me, Mine" – ego’s hold - will slip from grasp,

Body and mind will age with time until all is burnt in a pyre,

Home and possessions -so dear right now - will slip through the fingers like sand,

Name and fame will blow away like wind,

Job and titles will fade like shadows,

Relatives, friends - so close, so near - will disappear.

What remains, that I must pay heed to?

Impermanence, the truth so clear,

Our Buddha Nature, deep within all of us,

Buddha’s Teachings – the words might change – but the essence remains.

So why, then, do we cling and strive for what is subject to decay?

Today I must contemplate on what lasts and find lasting peace.
